Conference Schedule
Location:
The 2005 Conference will be held at the University
of Rhode Island, Providence, RI.
Dates:
Thursday-Saturday, August 4-6, 2005.
Conference Site:
Providence is the capital city of the State of
Rhode Island and has undergone a remarkable renewal over the past 10 years.
Called “The Renaissance City” by such publications as Newsweek, it has
become a center for art, education, first-class dining, professional theatre,
and commerce. Within walking distance are several excellent restaurants,
including McCormick & Schmick’s, the Federal Reserve, India, and L’Epicureo
(which is the restaurant in The Hotel Providence), and such delis and pubs
as Blake’s Pub, Union Street Tavern, Dean’s Deli, and Tazza’s. Just
three blocks away is the newly opened Providence Place Mall, which includes
both a National Amusements multiplex and an IMAX theatre. A quick
bus ride up famously steep College Hill will bring you to Thayer Street
where students and faculty of Brown University and the RI School of Design
mingle with residents at top restaurants, shops, and bookstores.
The Conference Hotel:
We have arranged conference-rated housing at
The Hotel Providence (www.TheHotelProvidence.com). Please peruse
their web site to view the hotel. The hotel is described as a “European-style
boutique hotel” and the rooms offer modern amenities with turn-of-the-century
décor. The rooms have a king or queen sized bed only (they
have only 4-5 rooms with two beds, but these may be more expensive).
So, if you are sharing, you need to understand that you will have only
one bed in the room.
You must contact the hotel directly to make your
reservations. If you choose to call, please inform the reservations
clerk that you are part of The Jungian Society Conference in order to be
given the discounted rate.
Keynote Speaker and Dinner:
Our Keynote Dinner will be at McCormick &
Schmick’s Restaurant. Your Registration Fee in part pays for this
dinner. We have our own private dining room with the bar just outside
our dining area. (It is a cash bar, which is your only expense at
this dinner.) Our Keynote Speaker is Anne Back Price, a Jungian analyst
associated with Brown University whose book, Grief Dreams: How They
Help Us Heal After the Death of a Loved One, which she co-authored,
was published in March, 2005.
For Presenters:
Presenters will be given 15 minutes to present
their papers. After the papers on the panel have been presented,
there will be sufficient time for a Question-and-Answer period between
the audience and the presenters. Our panels will be individual as
much as possible, and follow one after the other. You can access
the list of panels on this webpage after June 30th. If you need to
know when you are presenting before then, please contact Barbara Silliman
at TheJungianSociety@cox.net.
